Q: Do I need construction experience to be a volunteer?
A: No, Hearts & Hammers volunteers can have experience ranging from novice painter to experienced carpenters. Typical projects include yard work and landscaping. All volunteers at any experience level are welcome.
Q: When are the dates of the program?
A: There are three set program days or you can create our own custom day during the week.
Q: What is the length of the program day and schedule of activities?
A: A typical program day starts at 8:00 AM for volunteers and concludes when the project is complete. Generally, about 6 to 8 hours.
Q: What items should I bring to the program day?
A: Hearts & Hammers provides all tools and materials required to paint and rehabilitate the house. However, personal items such as work gloves and protective eye wear are encouraged.
Q: Are there age requirements to become a volunteer?
A: Yes, you must be at least 12 years old to participate on program day. A parental permission form must be completed for ages 12 to 17.
Q: What kind of work will Hearts & Hammers volunteers complete?
Home improvements are limited to exterior painting and minor repairs. Work may include:
