Every
year, our friends at McGough go above and beyond by creating what has become a Hearts & Hammers tradition: the McGough Signature Home. This special project brings together McGough and a team of trusted partners to deliver not just repairs, but a complete home transformation for one very deserving homeowner.
This year, that homeowner was Margaret, a 76-year-old Minneapolis resident who has lived in her two-story home for over 49 years. Her house has seen decades of memories, but it was also in serious need of attention. And that’s exactly what McGough and their partners delivered — in just one week.
Alongside McGough were incredible partners who helped make this transformation possible: Kota Tree Care, Margolis Company Landscaping, Swanson & Youngdale, Advantage Scaffolding, and Enclose Construction Solutions.
Together, this powerhouse team scraped and painted Margaret’s entire home and garage, removed and trimmed overgrown trees, including a large tree that had begun to threaten her garage foundation, poured new sidewalks and a patio to redirect water away from the house, installed fresh plantings and landscaping, and built a new, safer back step. Margaret’s home had an old addition that was never correctly secured to the original structure – a problem that had caused issues for years. The team made major repairs to ensure the addition was structurally sound and safely connected for the first time. The result of all this work? A safer, more beautiful home that Margaret can enjoy for years to come.
But the story doesn’t end there. Margaret, overwhelmed with gratitude, shared her own legacy of service. A lifelong volunteer and missionary, she has traveled the globe with her grandchildren, building schools and shelter for children in need. Seeing the same kind of care and generosity poured back into her own life nearly brought her to tears.
Projects like this remind us what’s possible when skilled professionals, community volunteers, and compassionate sponsors come together.
